Sculpting

From archaeological excavations in Naxos, the oldest finds date back to the Neolithic period around the 5th millennium BC. Protocycladic figurines were carved in Naxian marble, as were solid vessels and utensils of exceptional artfulness.

In the archaic period Naxos emerged as one of the most famed and flourishing Aegean centres. The Naxos Kouroi are the oldest found in Greek territory. Naxian marble appears in the Naxians’ Sphinx in Delphoi, the Naxos House in Delos, two early Kores of the Acropolis, and the Delos lions.

To this day artists continue to work with Naxian marble. The company encourages artists wishing to create work based on Naxian Marble by providing material under preferential conditions.

Collaborating artists include Ingbert Brunk, Wolf Bröll, Olga Plastira, René Küng, Maximilian Frieling, Rowena Beaty, Éric Alcyon, Kyungmin Sung, Ralf Korte, Tom von Kaenel, Nikolas Verikokkos, Fish and Olive Creations, and the Naxian Marble Sculpting Symposium.
